The project "MAC - Brown maculation of pear trees: insights into causal agents, innovative prevention and containment techniques in the light of climate change" aims to help farms deal with the heavy and renewed threat represented by the well-known pear fungal disease such as brown spotting, in fact it proposes to reconsider also known aspects on which the climate changes we are witnessing have probably had a profound effect, causing from disorientation to real dramas at the level of field practice. Examples are investigations into the bio-epidemiology of the pathogen with a re-evaluation of its ability to produce toxins together with new and/or better techniques to be used for the sanitation of the turf capable of lowering the wintering inoculum of the pathogen and counteracting its potential of infection during the summer season. Another objective is that of evaluating the effectiveness and persistence of new active ingredients, even with a lower environmental impact, to be used in defense in the field. The improvement of the latter in terms of more adequate use of the synthetic active ingredients that currently represent the basis of the defense itself is also helped by the role assumed by the phenomena of resistance of the fungus to fungicides, which in recent years have led to further difficulties in controlling of the disease and to which a part of the investigations will be devoted.
